This summer I had the chance to shoot the factory of Privateer Rum in Ipswich, MA for Edible Boston. With a large garage door that opens to let in the sunlight, a spot in the middle to taste rum and some pretty sweet decorating (think the cool guy in your college dorm) I had fun afternoon. I got to talking with Maggie, the head distiller, and our conversation lead down a winding path about taste buds. She has been able to hone in her sense of taste through the years to detect tiny hints of favor and nuance. That’s pretty fascinating to me as someone who definitely can’t taste the difference between a green and red pepper.
